In our previous story, we shared a behind-the-scenes sneak peek of our personal Instagram adventure. We dived into how we ideate, design, and manage Chromeye’s digital identity on social media platforms.
This time we are back to inspire you and get you on board on this exciting journey. Today we share some insights on why your Instagram profile is a great place not only to connect with your followers but also to create leads for your business.
Let’s dig in!
Why Opt for Instagram for Lead Generation?

You may have noticed the hype around AI. With the development of this technology, a lot of things will change including how we foster genuine connections, create communities, and use our creativity. Yet, the innate human need for authentic interactions over automated ones will never take second place in any innovation or technological advancement.
This is where your Business Instagram Account comes in. With a user base of more than 2 billion monthly and ever-evolving content creation tools and possibilities, Instagram offers endless possibilities to connect with potential clients and generate leads.
On one hand, businesses can leverage the platform to create content that resonates with their target audience and facilitates the promotion of their product and services. On the other hand, Instagram’s algorithms help with the organic growth of your content by showcasing it to new users who are likely to find it interesting.
Instagram Lead Conversion: Transforming Followers into Leads
We already mentioned why Instagram is a great place to transform followers into leads. Even though many marketers struggle to harness its potential, it may even outperform the results you can get on Facebook and LinkedIn.
The truth is that you should know your way around the platform. The idea is to create a customer journey that is both engaging and entertaining. Your content strategy should lure people into purchasing your product by building a genuine connection and succeeding in generating a valuable leads base.
This includes understanding IG’s algorithm, developing a content funnel, and automating lead capture.
#1: Understanding Instagram’s Algorithm
Make the algorithm your friend, not your enemy.
The algorithm monitors user interactions with content as well as the posts you create. By regularly producing content that is tailored to your niche, Instagram becomes familiar with your profile. This enables it to pair your content with users who are actively looking for that kind of material.
To capitalise on this, begin by narrowing your focus to identify your target audience precisely. In other words, find your niche. Following that, consistently craft content that caters to their interests and requirements.
The second step is to start posting strategically. Bear in mind that there are distinct IG algorithms that analyse users’ behaviour on your main feed, stories, or reels. This means that you should tailor your content accordingly.
While the content you post on your Feed will help you stand out as an expert in your field, you can make genuine and personal connections via your stories (with your followers) and reels (with potential clients who do not follow you yet).
#2: Developing a Successful Instagram Content Strategy

Content funnels consist of three stages: attracting people, nurturing relationships, and getting the sale by turning eyeballs into paying customers.
- Attraction – Choosing the Right Message
At this stage, ask yourself “Am I speaking to my audience the right way? Am I creating content that will resonate with my audience’s needs, fears, and interests? Is someone going to share my content with a friend?
Do not forget that Instagram is a platform for social connections and its users are on it not only to find news and opportunities that interest them but also to keep in touch with their closest friends. This is the digital home of the “mouth-to-mouth” marketing. The more your content gets shared the more leads you have the potential to get.
- Relationship Building
The best way to keep new followers is by nurturing strong relationships through value-driven content. Provide information that is not only interesting but also helpful and applicable. For example, in our fast-paced lives, time-optimising advice is highly valuable. You could share some lesser-known tips and tricks, step-by-step guides, or some fun and stress-relieving videos or photos.
You will see which type of content works best for your audience by the number of likes, comments, and shares you get under each post.
- Getting the Sale
To incentivise people who are already engaging with your content and interested in your products, add limited offers like “Get a 20% discount by the end of the week” or testimonials from your happy customers. Pro tip: to get more sales, focus on your Stories content. To expand your mailing list sign-ups pay more attention to your Reels and Carousels.
Whatever your goal is, make sure to always add a clear CTA button, so that people know what they are expected to do.
#3: Crafting the Customer Journey

As a marketer, your end goal is to get that sale! Yet, the step-by-step process is not as easy as we wish. The first step of the customer journey is to understand your audience. Some of the proven approaches include joining Facebook community groups, searching for similar items on Pinterest, or getting on community blogs where people share their pains, struggles and aspirations. You can even collect feedback directly from your Instagram community and followers by reading their comments and direct messages.
Then it’s time to craft your message. Make it clear that you understand their deepest desires and needs and how the solution you offer gets them exactly what they want. Show them how you will make their lives easier.
Finally, consider that Instagram is not the endpoint of the customer journey. Map out carefully what they need to do to get the instant relief they need. Do they need to subscribe to your email newsletter or sign up on your website?
#4 Automating Instagram Lead Generation
You can use tools like ManyChat to automate your Instagram feed generation. Once you set it up, it will directly generate responses regardless if people send you a DM or comment under your posts and reels. You can add useful links and call-to-actions in these automatic responses. For example, you can choose a “trigger” phrase like “tell me more” and when someone types it under your content or in your DM, they will receive a tailored message with a link that leads them to the information they need.
This is a good trick if you are not moderating your social media channels constantly. Later, you can join the conversation yourself and attend to the person in a more personal way. Keep in mind that Instagram’s algorithms favour accounts that stay active in their DMs. They assume that if people stay engaged and interact with you, your Instagram profile brings them value and genuine experience.
Using DMs for external links for lead generation is the way to go because Instagram does not allow it in the comments section.
